Routine

Routine? What is that? Lockdowns, restrictions, changing rules, case numbers, mystery cases, contact tracing, Tier 1-3 exposure sites, these have put an end to routine.

Kids love routine, they thrive on the security that a predictable routine gives, as it allows them to feel a sense of perceived control of their life and reassures them that although many changes rage around them in life some things are secure and unchanging.
It's the little things that matter. Routine bedtime rituals; baths, stories, prayers, bedtimes. Routine meal time rituals; sitting at the table, giving thanks to God, talking about your day. Routine weekend rituals; going for a walk, going out to a cafe, playing games, spending time together and time independently, church (online or in person). Routines in the morning before school; breakfast, making the bed, talking about the day, heading off to school (even keeping school time online starting the same).

All these little things build security and confidence and help our kids to see that some things can be depended upon. And that starts to build the concept that God can be depended upon; He is bigger than circumstances, He is in control, He can be relied on because He loves us, just as you love your kids.
It is difficult times for holding routines but do what lies in your control at home or even plan to start some new ones and your kids will feel more secure, less anxious and generally more relaxed and happy. God is with you as you parent, ask Him for what you need and cast your worries on Him, He loves YOU!
