SBC Church Council

A Church Council Member at Sale Baptist Church is responsible for governance, oversight, and strategic direction of the church. Their duties include supporting the mission and ministry of the church, assessing the spiritual health of the congregation, and overseeing the appointment and performance of the Senior Pastor. They also play a crucial role in financial management, including preparing the annual budget, monitoring financial risks, and ensuring compliance with laws and policies. Additionally, they review and approve strategies to promote effective governance and risk management within the church.

Church Council Members must adhere to minimum governance standards set by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). This includes acting with care and diligence, making decisions in the best interests of the church, avoiding conflicts of interest, and ensuring responsible financial management. Members serve for up to three years per term, with a maximum of six consecutive years before taking a mandatory one-year break. Their role is to provide oversight, not operational management, which remains under the authority of the Senior Pastor and leadership team.
